What is Rotaract?
 

Rotaract is a youth Rotary organization for 18-30 years olds. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. There are some 8000 Rotaract clubs in 155 countries.


What is Hunteract?
 

Hunteract is the name given to the Rotaract Club of the Hunter. Hunteract is sponsored by Newcastle Rotary Club.


How Did Hunteract Start?
 

After completing the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in January 2004, five attendees decided to establish a community organization to raise funds for charities and people in need, while providing a fun, non-formal social setting for its members. Hunteract was chartered by Newcastle Rotary Club in July 2004.


What does Hunteract Do?
 

Hunteract raises money for several local and international projects. So far they have supported organizations such as the Red Cross, Telstra Child Flight, the Salvation Army, St Vincent De Pauls and Technical Aids for the Disabled. The club have also completed several international projects.


How does the club raise funds?
 

By having fun! So far funds have been raised by hosting several parties, a poker night and a trivia night. The club organises Krispy Kreme drives several times a year, and money is also raised from membership fees.


What do you get from joining?
 

Hunteract is a very social club in a non-formal setting. At the fortnightly meetings, members have a drink and a chat, while organising worthwhile community projects. They also get to take advantage of the many social events, such as the parties and poker nights, while enhancing their organisational and leadership skills.
